Frequently asked questions

What are stainless 304 pipe prices today?+

Stainless is priced per kilo: weight × the price per kg for the grade and finish. The price moves with nickel and the exchange rate, so we send today's price in writing on request instead of a fixed number that may be out of date.

What is the difference between schedule pipe and sanitary tube?+

Schedule pipe (ASTM A312) is sized by NPS and schedule 10/40/80 for pressure, steam and structures. Sanitary tube (ASTM A270) is thin-walled with a polished bore for dairy, juice and pharma lines.

Should I choose seamless or welded pipe?+

Seamless for high pressure and temperature. Welded is cheaper, more precise and enough for most water, food and structural lines.

Do the pipes come with a mill certificate?+

Yes. Every lot ships with a mill test certificate showing chemistry, mechanical properties and heat number.

How do I work out the weight of a stainless pipe?+

Weight in kg/m = (OD − wall) × wall × 0.0251 (in mm), at a density of 8.0 g/cm³. A 2 inch schedule 40 pipe (60.3 × 3.91 mm) weighs about 5.54 kg/m, about 33 kg per 6 m length.

304 or 316 pipe for water and food lines?+

304 or 304L is enough for most water, dairy and juice lines. Choose 316L for high-chloride water, aggressive cleaning chemicals or sites near the sea.
